22nd May 2017, Gurugram: National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is going to open the U-Turn near Honda Chowk for public use tomorrow. People residing on both sides of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway will be able to benefit from this U-turn as it will help cut the travel time from Rajiv Chowk to Kherki Daula toll plaza in half. Commercial vehicles are not allowed to use the Hero Honda Chowk U-turn.
Until now, there were no turns on both sides of the Hero Honda Chowk and the commuters were forced to cover a distance of nearly 7kms to take a U-turn to return to Hero Honda Chowk to reach the Honda plant. This greatly increased both travel time and traffic congestion in the area in addition to the inconvenience caused to the commuters. However, after the opening of the U-turn, they can easily go towards Sector 10A or just turn back without the need to cover an extra 14kms.
The Hero Honda U-turn was supposed to be opened earlier but, according to NHAI, there was a delay because it took some time to remove the construction debris under the flyover. The U-turn will be allowed under the flyover. One side of the flyover was already in use since 27th March 2017 whereas the other side is supposed to open on 30th June 2017. NHAI plans to station a traffic marshal to streamline the traffic flow in this area now.
