6 March 2017, Gurgaon: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a notification under the NHAI Act regarding the acquisition of the land to construct the incomplete 1 km portion of Dwarka Expressway in Delhi.
The land area for which the notification has been issued is around 24.03 hectares. The concerned real estate is located in the Bijwasan and Bamnoli areas of Delhi.
The notification has been issued for hassle-free completion of the project, as according to the NHAI Act, such a notification cannot be challenged in court, unlike those issued under the Land Acquisition Act. The notification is expected to clear the final hurdles to complete the expressway.
As of now, a total of 4 km of the Dwarka Expressway is incomplete. Of this 3 km lies under the authority of DDA while the remaining 1 km is private land. The private land is to be acquired by the NHAI. The land also covers the UER-II (Urban Extension Road – II) areas passing through Dwarka sector 26 in Delhi to sector 111 in Gurgaon.
Another proposed road, the Dwarka-Palam Vihar link, which is 27 km long (18 km falls in Gurgaon and 9 km in Delhi) has already missed six deadlines. This road, also known as the Northern Peripheral Road, will connect Dwarka in Delhi to the NH-8 in Gurgaon once it is finished. The project for building the road was initiated 10 years ago and it was supposed to have been ready before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games of 2010. The detailed project report for the Delhi portion is not out yet as it is being prepared by NHAI in consultation with AECOM.
