14th June, Gurgaon: The urgent cloverleaf project proposed by HUDA is likely to be delayed as NHAI has denied a separate DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the project. HUDA had requested NHAI to form a separate DPR for the proposed cloverleaf flyway to start it as soon as possible.

According to HUDA, the cloverleaf is required to link the SPR (Southern Peripheral Road) and the NPR (Northern Peripheral Road) of the Gurgaon-Dwarka Expressway Project and ease the traffic on both sides of the expressway and in the city. NHAI officials have said that they have forwarded the letter from HUDA to their headquarters. A consultant has already been appointed for preparation of the detailed DPR of the entire expressway including the cloverleaf. This DPR is likely to be submitted by the end of this month. Considering the progress on the said DPR for the entire expressway, NHAI finds it difficult to prepare a separate project report only for the cloverleaf.

Despite NHAI’s stance on the issue, HUDA and the Haryana Government have a different stand. The Haryana State Government is worried about the city’s current traffic situation and wants the cloverleaf to be constructed at the earliest. The traffic congestion has also become a concern for the residents of areas near Badshahpur since they now have to travel almost 9 km more to take the SPR to reach Pataudi.

During his visit to the city on 15th April, the Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, had asked HUDA and NHAI to coordinate their operations and decongest the traffic at Hero Honda Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Signature Tower. The Chief Minister also inspected SPR and NPR to review their progress. However, in light of the recent denial of the DPR, the traffic woes are likely to continue for some time at least.
